Generic/Universal Games

Sometimes called “generic”, sometimes “universal”, games of this type allow gamemasters to run adventures in their favorite TV or movie universes, create their own worlds, or mashup genres to create something totally new.

They differ primarily in emphasis. Some, such as GURPS and Basic Roleplaying, provide a framework for modeling a game world. Others such as Hillfolk and Fate Core emphasize the flow of the story created through play.
